AmmoTracker keeps a live count of your ammunition, tracks what you shoot, and warns you before you run dry.

Creating an account

• Sign up with your email and a password of at least 12 characters containing an uppercase letter, a lowercase letter, a digit, and a symbol.
• We send a confirmation email — click the link (or paste the code) to activate your account before logging in.
• On the web you can also sign in with Google, or with a passkey (Touch ID, Windows Hello, or a security key) once you've registered one under Account.

First steps

1. Add your ammunition under Add Ammo — caliber, brand, grain, quantity, and optionally a low-stock threshold.
2. Add your firearms under Firearms so range sessions and shot detection can be tied to a gun.
3. Log range trips under Usage; the inventory count updates automatically.

A CAPTCHA may appear on login and signup — it protects your account from automated attacks.

The dashboard is your at-a-glance overview:

• Stat cards show total entries, total rounds, and rounds used.
• Caliber bars show how your stock is distributed across calibers.
• Quick actions jump straight to adding ammo, logging usage, the wishlist, or your firearms.
• Entries at or below their low-stock threshold are flagged so you can restock in time (see the Inventory topic for how thresholds work).

Adding and editing

• Add Ammo creates an inventory entry: caliber, brand, bullet grain, quantity, price, and notes.
• Each card shows the current round count. Use Use Ammo on a card to log a range session against it, or edit the entry to correct counts.
• Purchase history per entry records each restock, so an entry can accumulate purchases over time.
• Export CSV / Import CSV in the Inventory header back up or bulk-load your inventory.

Low-stock alerts

• Give an entry a low-stock threshold and AmmoTracker flags it once the count drops to or below that number.
• If you use the iOS app, you also get a push notification the moment an entry crosses its threshold. You get one alert per dip — restock above the threshold and the alert re-arms for next time.
• Entries created already below their threshold don't fire a surprise alert for state you just typed in.

• Register each firearm with a nickname, make/model, and caliber.
• The caliber matters beyond bookkeeping: it determines the firearm's platform family (Handgun, Rifle, Shotgun, or Rimfire), which Shot Session uses to classify detected shots. Use a standard caliber notation (e.g. “9mm”, “5.56”, “12ga”, “.22 LR”) so the family can be recognized.
• Firearms appear as options when logging usage, so your round counts stay per-gun accurate.

• The wishlist is your “want to buy” list — track calibers, brands, and target quantities you're hunting for a deal on.
• When you buy, hit Purchased on the wishlist entry: AmmoTracker converts it into a real inventory entry (you confirm quantity and price) and removes it from the wishlist.

• Log a range session with the date, firearm, and rounds fired; the linked inventory entry's count decreases automatically.
• Start from Log Session in the Usage header, from Use Ammo on an inventory card, or let Shot Session propose entries from a recording.
• The Usage table is your full session history and feeds the Analytics charts.

• Charts of your shooting over time: rounds used per month, usage by caliber, and inventory trends.
• Analytics is driven entirely by your usage log — the more sessions you record, the more useful it gets.
• Nothing to see yet? Log a few sessions, or generate demo data from the dashboard to explore the charts.

What it is

Shot Session listens through your device's microphone while you shoot, detects each shot, and classifies it by platform family — Handgun, Rifle, Shotgun, or Rimfire. When you stop, it proposes pre-filled usage entries: you review, correct anything it got wrong, pick which inventory each group came from, and log everything in one tap.

Shot Session is rolling out gradually. If you don't see it in the menu, it isn't enabled for your account yet.

Calibration — required before your first session

Every range, firearm, and suppressor setup sounds different, so AmmoTracker builds a personal sound profile from short recordings of your own guns. Until at least one platform family is calibrated, sessions can't start.

• What's needed: at least 5 sample shots per platform family you plan to use. Calibrating your 9mm covers other handguns too — samples count toward the family, not the individual gun.
• How: open Shot Session, pick a firearm from the calibration list, press Start recording, fire, and watch the “shots heard” counter tick up. Press Stop & save when you've logged at least 5.
• Suppressor: flip the “This firearm uses a suppressor” toggle before recording suppressed fire — suppressed and unsuppressed shots sound very different, and mislabeled samples hurt accuracy.
• Add more anytime: a family shows ✓ Ready at 5 samples, but more samples (especially from different ranges, ammo, and distances) keep improving accuracy. Use Add more on a ready family.
• Unknown family? If a firearm shows “Unknown family”, its caliber wasn't recognized — edit the firearm and use a standard notation like “9mm”, “5.56”, or “12ga”.
• Recalibration: when we upgrade the sound model, old calibration becomes incompatible and Shot Session will ask you to recalibrate before your next session. Your inventory and usage history are unaffected.

Recording a session

• Press Start session and give microphone permission when asked. Keep the device out of your pocket, ideally on the bench near you.
• Audio uploads in 5-second chunks while you shoot; a live counter shows shots heard per family.
• Press Stop session when done. Analysis usually takes a few seconds.

Reviewing & logging

• Each detected shot appears as a chip. Amber chips mean low confidence — tap any chip to reclassify it. Your corrections directly train your personal model, so fixing mistakes makes the next session better.
• Assign each family group to an inventory entry (splits across entries are supported), then press Log usage. Entries land in your normal usage log and decrement inventory like any other session.

Privacy

• Recordings are stored privately, tied to your account only, and deleted automatically after 30 days.
• You can delete a recording immediately from the review screen; sessions you never confirm expire on their own.

Troubleshooting

• “Calibration required”: at least one family needs 5+ samples — see calibration above. This also appears after a model upgrade.
• 0 shots heard: check that the microphone permission is granted, move the device closer to the firing line, and shield it from wind. Indoor ranges with heavy echo work best with a few extra calibration samples recorded there.
• Shots misclassified: reclassify them on the review screen and add more calibration samples for the confused family — especially if you shoot suppressed.

Profile & password

• Set your display name and change your password under Account. Passwords need 12+ characters with upper/lowercase, a digit, and a symbol.
• Changing or resetting your password signs out remembered devices and emails you a security alert.

Two-factor authentication (MFA)

• Enable TOTP-based MFA from Account: scan the QR code with any authenticator app (Google Authenticator, 1Password, Authy…) and confirm with a 6-digit code.
• Backup codes: enabling MFA issues 10 one-time backup codes — shown exactly once. Store them somewhere safe; each works once in place of an authenticator code. You can regenerate a fresh set from Account (requires a current TOTP code).
• Remember this device: on the MFA prompt you can check “Remember this device” to skip MFA on that browser for up to 3 logins or 24 hours, whichever comes first. Manage or revoke remembered devices under Account → Remembered devices.

Passkeys

• Register a passkey (Touch ID, Face ID on the web, Windows Hello, or a hardware key) under Account → Passkeys, then use Sign in with passkey on the login screen — no password or MFA code needed, since a passkey is inherently two-factor.

Account lockout

• After 5 consecutive failed attempts (wrong password or wrong MFA code), the account locks for 15 minutes. Wait it out, use a backup code once unlocked, or ask an admin to unlock you.
• Security-sensitive events (new remembered device, new passkey, password change, MFA disable) trigger an email alert so you notice anything you didn't do.

• The iOS app is the same AmmoTracker, wrapped natively. Sign in with email/password (plus MFA if enabled) — Google sign-in is web-only.
• Push notifications for low-stock alerts arrive on every iOS device you've signed in on.
• Shot Session on iOS uses the native microphone pipeline and can keep listening with the screen locked. Grant microphone permission on first use.

• Manage Users: create accounts, unlock locked-out users, delete accounts, and toggle per-user feature flags (including Shot Session access). The table shows a “Locked” / failure-count pill per user.
• Audit Log: an append-only record of every change made through the API (1-year retention). Filter by actor, target type, and date; click a row for full detail. Sensitive payloads such as passwords and MFA codes are never recorded.
• Admin accounts must use MFA — you'll be walked through setup on first login, and “remember this device” is not available for admins.

• I'm locked out. Wait 15 minutes and try again, or contact an admin. If your password is the problem, use “Forgot password?” on the login screen.
• I lost my authenticator device. Use one of your one-time backup codes at the MFA prompt, then re-enroll MFA from Account. No backup codes? Contact an admin.
• The confirmation email never arrived. Check spam, and make sure the address is typed correctly — you can sign up again with the same email if the account was never confirmed.
• Low-stock push never arrives. Push requires the iOS app with notifications allowed (check iOS Settings → Notifications → AmmoTracker), and the entry must have a threshold set.
• Shot Session says I need calibration. Record at least 5 sample shots for one platform family — see the Shot Session topic above.
